Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais have the option to make Jeremie Boga’s loan from Chelsea permanent but it will cost them €40 million, according to Ouest-France via Rennes-Maville.
As part of Chelsea’s incredible amount of players out on loan, currently standing at 33, Boga was sent out on loan to Rennes this season for his first taste of first-team football.
The report says that as part of the deal Rennes will have the option to purchase him outright but it is highly unlikely that they will be able to afford the €40m fee mooted.
Boga has long been considered one of the finest players in the Chelsea academy but he is yet to make a league appearance for the champions, although he was on the bench for the final game of the season.
This move to Rennes goes to show how highly he is rated because Ligue 1 is one of the better leagues in Europe and the Brittany club have started the season well.
Clearly Chelsea feel that he has the capability to slot into Philippe Montanier’s side and it will be interesting to see how he does.
The team are currently playing an interesting variant of a 3-4-3 which would give him an opportunity in the wide areas.
