Here’s something totally unexpected: Wiz Khalifa raps about getting “turnt up on marijuana and champagne” on his new song, “Burn Slow.”
So… OK, yeah, not that unusual. But the new track does find him navigating unchartered territory by teaming up with “No Type” sibling duo Rae Sremmurd.
Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy handle the simple but effective hook while Wiz flows over a beat courtesy of golden producer Mike Will Made-It, featuring spacey synths and kick drums. As the unsurprisingly weed-referencing jam’s title suggests, the track moves at a pretty chill pace, and even throws in some stoned coughs throughout for good measure.
Earlier this year, Wiz announced Rolling Papers 2: The Weed Album, the follow-up to his 2011 major-label debut. No word yet on a release date, but “Burn Slow” sounds like a sign of good things to come.
