X FACTOR boss Simon Cowell says his mother would have wanted him to get straight back to work after her death.
In an interview on ITV1’s Loose Women set to be broadcast today the mogul will open up about his emotional reaction to one audition, which reduced him to tears.
Last week viewers saw the judge crying during the emotional performance of Josh Daniels who sang Labrinth’s Jealous, which Cowell says reminded him of his mother who had passed away just four days before the recording.
He said: “I mean it was quite near when it all happened and I think it was the last audition and I wasn’t really expecting what happened and of course the lyric of the song and it was quite difficult because I thought, ‘God this is going to be really hard to sit through this.’
“But then you’ve got to think of and it’s his moment, but yes it was very emotional.”
Speaking about his late mother, Julie who passed away July aged 89, he said: “She was a huge fan of the show, she loved the show which sort of made the decision, ‘when do you go back to work on something like this?’ because it’s hard and it really was what I thought she would have said to me which was, ‘No 100 per cent you’ve got to go back to work’.”
Speaking on the show fellow judge, Nick Grimshaw, said: “It just goes to show how much a song and a performance can move you and I guess that’s why we want to be part of this show because it’s those real moments that make it so exciting and honest.”
The interview comes after a busy weekend on X Factor with 30-year-old farmer Hannah Marie Kilminster, winning over all four judges with her powerful rendition of Queen’s Somebody To Love.
Jasmine Leigh Morris, 21, from Swansea also wowed the judges with her performance of Clown by Emeli Sande on Sunday.
Speaking about the judges’ reaction, she said: “It was amazing and I really wasn’t expecting it and I was just taken aback a bit.”
Asked what she thought about her competition on the show she said: “To be honest with you, everyone has got a fair chance.
“There isn’t an individual I can say because the talent in the competition is just insane this year. It’s stronger than any of the previous series; they’re just so amazing.”
