13-year-old boy killed after his father tried to avoid hitting a child crossing the road

A 13-year-old boy has been killed in an accident which occurred when his father swerved suddenly to avoid hitting a child crossing the road.

Chijioke Jr, the son of Chief Chijioke Uwah and Esther Uwah was in the car with his father when the accident occurred on Dec 15, 2017. Chijioke Sr had set out for Enugu from Abuja with five of his children after the Peoples Democratic Party PDP convention which took place in Abuja. On getting to Kogi state, as the car sped along the road, Chijioke Sr. noticed an unguided infant crossing the road and he quickly applied the brake and swerved to avoid hitting the child, but the car somersaulted and Chijioke Jr was thrown out of the smashed window.

Jr died on the spot. Chijioke Sr sustained injuries to his head. However, other occupants of the car came out unscathed. 

The boy will be laid to rest today, Jan 17, 2018, at their hometown in Ebonyi state.
