Jose Mourinho has reportedly agreed a five-year deal to replace Louis van Gaal.
The Portuguese boss, who was sacked as Chelsea manager last week, is set for an immediate return to management.
Mourinho is desperate to pitch up at Old Trafford after missing out when they appointed David Moyes. And Van Gaal is under huge pressure having gone six games without a win.
Bookmakers Ladbrokes have now slashed the odds on Mourinho being in the United dugout for their clash with Chelsea on December 28 to 7/2 from 10/1.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “It looks like a case of when and not if The Special One takes charge at Old Trafford. Fans are convinced he is making the move and the odds of his first game being against Chelsea are shortening by the hour.”
He added: “United’s title price is already coming under pressure as punters put full faith in Mourinho’s Midas Touch returning at Old Trafford.” Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, who played under him at Real Madrid, has backed Mourinho to be a success at United.
“I’m surprised by what happened with Jose,” he told The Times. “He’s a great manager. I believe that any club he goes to now he will be successful again.
