Nacho Monreal reportedly agrees new Arsenal deal
Nacho Monreal has reportedly agreed a new contract at Arsenal worth £75,000 a week which should end interest from Athletic Club, as per the Daily Star.
Monreal has been with Arsenal since January 2013 and last season he appeared to move ahead of Kieran Gibbs in the left-back pecking order at the club.
However despite this, as per the Star’s report, he has been heavily linked with a move to Athletic because of his Basque heritage, which makes him eligible to play for the club.
Now it seems that he will be staying with the Gunners for the foreseeable future, in light of reports covered by the Star claiming he has agreed a contract extension.
Last season, Monreal’s personal highlight came during the 2-1 victory away at Manchester United in the FA Cup when he scored a fine opening goal
He started the final of the tournament against Aston Villa as Arsenal won 4-0 and retained the trophy.
He is expected to start the season as first-choice and Arsenal will be hoping that they can make more of an impression in England’s top flight as well as the Champions League.
The only signing the club have made is Petr Cech, but many fans feel that his arrival will make enough of a difference.
Additionally, the Gunners today announced new deals for Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla, and so should the Star’s claims be accurate Monreal could become the club’s third extension in quick succession.
