Drake Breaks Silence Following Shooting at His Toronto Afterparty: 'I Pray for Better Times'

Drake Breaks Silence After Shooting at OVO Fest Afterparty in Toronto

Ten days after a shooting broke out at an afterparty for Drake's Toronto music festival, OVO Fest, the rapper is breaking his silence on the "tragedy."

Two were killed and three were injured when shots were fired at a party at Muzik nightclub in downtown Toronto around 3 a.m. on Aug. 3.

Despite "the advice of my trusted advisors and counsel who worry that anything I might say could be misinterpreted" having him in a "moral bind," the 28-year-old Drake (né Aubrey Graham) decided to "follow my heart" and speak out on the incident, he posted on his blog Friday.

"I am plagued and pained by the violence that continues to escalate in our city," the Toronto native wrote, in addition to offering his "deepest condolences" to the families of Ariela Navarro-Fenoy, 26, and Duvel Hibbert, 23, who died in the shooting. "Although Toronto is globally viewed as a major city, at the core we are still a small close-knit community, and it is our public responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of one another. We need each other to further our communities for generations to come ...

"I pray for better times and better understanding."

Per the Associated Press, it is unknown whether Drake and other "high-profile entertainment figures" (like Kanye West, who also performed at OVO Fest) were in the club at the time of the shooting. Police have said they are still looking for two suspects in the shootings.
