Sorry Kim Kardashian! Mariah Carey does not understand reality TV celebrity culture

Mariah Carey
Singer Mariah Carey says that she could not handle starring in a reality TV show
With 18 number one singles and five Grammys under her belt, it is no surprise that Mariah Carey is not a fan of celebrities created by reality TV. During a press junket in Israel, the diva admitted she "could not handle" the level of fame these type of stars attract.

Without mentioning any names in particular, Carey, 45, discussed the idea of reality TV which has spawned a new wave of celebrities, including the likes of Kim Kardashian and the Real Housewives and Love & Hip Hop casts, to name a few. The We Belong Together singer told journalist Yarden Ben Aviv: "Some people's goal is to be famous, not to have a craft or an art that they're famous for.
"Today, you can be famous just from being on a reality... well, doing... you don't really have to do much, but you kinda gotta do a lot. And then your whole life is just about being a celebrity and that's what some people aspire to, because it's easy and because then everybody knows them and all they see is the bright side of fame."

Although she is most of the most followed people in the world, Carey admits she could not cope with cameras trailing her every move on a daily basis. She stated: "I couldn't handle being on a reality show, I couldn't handle having people with cameras on me all the time. It's already like that, it's too much."

It is no secret that Carey does not keep up with the Kardashians as her ex-husband Nick Cannon has previously revealed that she was unaware of Kim, 34, whom he had dated in the past. The America's Got Talent host told radio shock jock Howard Stern in 2014: "My wife, she doesn't even know who Kim Kardashian is."
The Hero singer has not written off TV completely, though – she will star in the upcoming season two of popular Fox series Empire. Show creator Lee Daniels, who worked with Carey on the films The Butler and Precious, confirmed the news earlier in August, telling E! News: "She has certainly proven herself, good Lord. Repeatedly. I'm very excited to see where she goes on Empire."
