Arsenal fans adapted quite quickly to having Petr Cech and his helmet in between the sticks for the Gunners. Some may have expressed their love a bit too outwardly. In this case, is imitation really still the highest form of flattery?
No matter, because Cech has adapted just as well as the fans to his new club. The keeper had a triumphant showing at Wembley on Sunday as Wenger defeated Mourinho for the first time in 13 outings. Cech was rarely troubled as he shut out his former club, punching away Oscar’s free kick in the 69th minute to preserve the Gunners’ 1-0 lead that would eventually remain the final score.
It was only the second time ever the FA Cup winners have prevailed in the Community Shield match. Neither Arsenal nor Chelsea have done much transfer business this summer, with both line-ups (with the exception of Cech’s switcheroo) remaining relatively unchanged.
Perhaps Cech will continue to be the difference for Arsene Wenger’s side in the coming season?
