A final year student of the Institute Of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu, reportedly stabbed a commercial sex worker to death over a disagreement on payment.
Mr Emmanuel Ezeugwu, who is in the Department of Public Administration, stabbed the woman at his home and tried to escape to Lagos but was arrested by the Police in Enugu on his way. The incident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. at Onuato Street, Enugu. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, the sex worker accompanied Mr Ezeugwu to his apartment, where they had a disagreement which resulted in a scuffle that led to her death.
Amaraizu said the suspect picked up the sex worker at Rangers Avenue on Sunday after they had agreed on a payment of N4,000 for a night with him. The suspect had had a lot to drink and when they arrived at his home he demanded they have sex immediately but his female companion asked to finish what she was inhaling before they could get down to business. After pressuring her to have sex with him for several hours, the suspect slept off and woke up before 3 a.m. He then ordered the sex worker to leave his apartment since they ended up not having sex. The suspect told police that the deceased resisted the order and allegedly warned him to beware as she would not succumb to any threat whatsoever.
"She later took a knife from his kitchen after allegedly biting him. The accused further revealed that a fight suddenly broke out between them and as the deceased tried to stab him to death with the kitchen knife, he overpowered her." Amaraizu said.
The suspect added that the kitchen knife went straight to the stomach of the sex worker and he stabbed her again on the neck region after which she died. In panic, he wrapped her body and made arrangement to travel to Lagos but he was caught following a tip-off from members of a local vigilante.
The body of the deceased was found at the apartment and deposited at the mortuary of the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre, Enugu. Investigations are currently ongoing.
