Obama, Clinton to talk after 2016 defeat

US outgoing President Barack Obama and his former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are set to address the nation following the party’s failure in the 2016 presidential election.

According to a notice obtained by POLITICO on Sunday, the lame duck president would host an event along with the Democratic National Committee on Monday.

Clinton will join US House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi as well as other House Democrats to host a separate event.

"Your support throughout this campaign meant everything to Hillary and her entire team, and we are so grateful to you," the Clinton campaign wrote in an email sent to House Democrats.

Clinton lost the 2016 election to GOP nominee Donald Trump, who defied most of the polls conducted ahead of the Election Day.

Apart from winning the White House, the GOP also managed to remain in control of both the Senate and the House.

The reality TV star’s victory has infuriated thousands of anti-Trump activists, who have been staging protests across the country ever since.

On Sunday, they took to the streets in several cities for the fifth straight day.

"Say it loud, say it clear, immigrants are welcomed here," shouted the crowd en route to the Trump Tower in New York on Sunday, while holding placards, reading, "White silence = violence" and "Don't mourn, organize."
