Millions must tell Trump he is ‘dead wrong,’ on climate

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders says it takes “millions” of people to tell US President-elect Donald Trump that he is wrong on climate, in an apparent pitch to offer a legitimate path for anti-Trump protests after the 2016 presidential election.

Trump, who won the shock 2016 vote, has said that he would kill the Paris climate deal on the first day in office.

“What astounds me, and I hope this changes very quickly, is we now have a president-elect who actually does not believe that climate change is real,” Sanders told John Dickerson on Face the Nation. “I worry very much what this means for our kids, and our grandchildren, and the future of this planet.”

“And millions of people are going to have to tell him, Mr. Trump, you are dead wrong, and we’re going to have to transform our energy system,” said the senator, who suspended his own presidential campaign in favor of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton ahead of the 2016 vote.

The GOP’s generally accepted approach towards global warming and climate change is that it is not real, with Trump having called the scientifically proven phenomenon as a “Chinese hoax.”

The Paris deal is a global agreement to limit carbon emissions in an effort to slow climate change.

Sanders added that he would support any of Trump’s efforts to help the American working class, yet noting, “we will not accept racism, we will not accept sexism, or xenophobia.”

The Democratic socialist made the comments as anti-Trump protests were being held across the nation with more demonstrations planned for Sunday afternoon in New York City and Oakland, California.

They have been accused by the Trump team of not accepting the result of the election despite the fact that the billionaire property tycoon managed to enough gain electoral votes necessary to win the White House.
