Done Deal: Harry Redknapp joins Derby in an advisory role

HARRY REDKNAPP has joined Championship side Derby in an advisory role.

The ex-Tottenham, West Ham, Portsmouth, Southampton and QPR boss has been drafted in to help rookie head coach Darren Wassall.

Wassall was given the top job until the end of the campaign when the Rams sacked Paul Clement last month.

And Redknapp will now join him until the summer as the club look to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Redknapp said: “From the first conversation I had with the Chairman it was clear he has exciting plans for the football club.

"I am delighted to be able to help out and am looking forward to working with Darren and his team.”

Derby are seven points off an automatic promotion spot but look good to reach the play-offs.

And chairman Mel Morris reckons Redknapp's experience can help the club over the line.

“It is excellent news that Harry has agreed to join us," he said.

"His experience spans over several decades and he is one of the most knowledgeable and informed figures in the game.

“When I spoke with Harry about the possibility of helping out on a short-term basis, it was evident from the start that he was excited at the prospect of joining us.

"I am sure he will perfectly complement Darren and the rest of our staff.”
