Porto president slams decision to sign Casillas as an “absolute fiasco”

According to El Confidencial, Pinto Costa blames the Spaniard for the Dragons’ disastrous season and early Champions League exit.

Could former Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas follow suit of Raul Gonzalez and become the latest Blancos legend to make the switch to Major League Soccer?

This is a possibility, as El Confidencial have reported a shocking story in which Porto president Pinto Costa has slammed the Spanish veteran as an “absolute fiasco” of a signing.

Saint Iker joined The Dragon at the beginning of this season after being pushed out the Santiago Bernabeu door; however, his has not enjoyed a dream debut season with the Portuguese giants.

The 34-year-old has been found guilty of occasional blunders in between the stick, as Porto sit third in the league, six points behind leaders Benfica.

In addition, Porto suffered a group stage exit in this season’s Champions League, which Costa holds Casillas responsible for, before crashing out of the Europa League in the round of 32.

The signing of Casillas has been an absolute fiasco," El Confidencial quote the Porto president as saying.

"He's not lived up to any of the expectations we had, what's more he has cost us games, the league and a premature exit from the Champions League.

"His salary is unbearable for the club. If he goes to the United States, I've heard that New York City want him, then it would be the best piece of business the club has done."

Should The Dragon ship the Roja custodian out to New York City, he could join countryman David Villa in the States.
