Activists stop plans to turn Latin marketplace to luxury apartments

The Latin Village Market in Seven Sisters North London with a unique Latin American atmosphere has begun a legal fight back against long-standing plans to redevelop the vibrant and distinct community hub into luxury apartments, making way for more affluent Londoners, to replace the largely working class ethnic minority community.

Activists for the cause held a protest outside the Royal Court of Justice as a part of the legal fight back against the compulsory purchase order Latin Village instigated by the local council and property developers.
Beyond the popular buzz word of gentrification activists from Latin Village view the plans to redevelop the area as social cleansing, the local government working in tandem with big business to ensure that working class Bame communities who have lived in the area for decades, are forced out to make way for larger commercial businesses and luxury accommodation as has been the case throughout much of London and the country.
Plans to take over Latin Village are so serious that concerns have even been highlighted by the United Nations who maintain that redeveloping the market represents a violation of the rights of what is one of the Largest Latin American communities in the UK.
Activists and traders have embarked on a legal bid to fight the compulsory purchase order of North London's Latin Village which they say is a blatant attempt to redevelop the market into luxury apartments socially cleansing an area which for many decades has become an important focal point for working class ethnic minority communities.
