Iran’s Solhipour wins silver at 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships

Iranian para powerlifter Seyyed Hamed Solhipour has demonstrated admirable athletic skills at the 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Mexico, and scooped a silver medal at the high-status international tournament.

On Wednesday and the fifth day of the contests in Mexico City, the 2014 Asian champion cleared the bar at 210 kilograms to claim his second consecutive world silver in the men’s up to 88-kilogram weight section.
China’s 24-year-old representative, Ye Jixiong, subsequently lifted 215 kilograms, 220 kilograms and 226 kilograms to clinch the title at his maiden world championships.
“It feels really good,” he said with the medal hanging around his neck.
Brazil’s Rio 2016 silver medallist Evanio Da Silva lifted 208 kilograms to finish in the third place.
“My first world championships and I win a medal. I did not expect this because I do not compete to win medals but to give my best and outperform myself. I am very happy,” Da Silva said.
The 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships kicked off on December 2, and will conclude on December 8.
The Islamic Republic of Iran National Paralympic Committee (IRINPC) has dispatched a 14-strong powerlifting delegation to the world championships.
