Trump is ‘dangerous and un-American' - Sanders censures

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has censured Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as a billionaire representing a “corrupt American political system,” in the run-up to the November presidential election.

Sanders made the remarks in reference to Trump's tax avoidance at a campaign rally for his former rival, Hillary Clinton, in the US state of Michigan on Thursday.

The business mogul declared a $916 million loss on his 1995 income tax returns and the tax deduction was so substantial that allowed him to legally avoid paying taxes for 18 years to cancel out the loss.

“Special tax breaks and loopholes in a corrupt tax code enable billionaires and powerful corporations to avoid paying their fair share of taxes while sticking the burden on the middle class,” Sanders said.

“It’s time to create a tax system which is fair and which asks the wealthy and powerful to start paying their fair share of taxes,” he added.

The Vermont senator urged voters to elect Clinton, describing Trump’s policies as “dangerous” and "un-American."

“The reason Trump’s campaign is particularly dangerous and un-American is that he has made the cornerstone of his campaign bigotry,” Sanders said.

“This campaign, what Trump is trying to do trying to win votes by dividing us up, by insulting the Latino brothers and sisters, by insulting the Muslim community, by every day hurling insults at women,” he noted.

Trump’s campaign has been marred by controversy from the beginning, including disparaging remarks against immigrants, Muslims and women. The billionaire businessman has called for a ban on Muslims entering the US. He has vowed to deport all undocumented immigrants from the country and build a towering wall along the US-Mexico border.
