New poll: Clinton leads Trump by 7 percent

A new poll shows that US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton leads her Republican rival Donald Trump by 7 percent.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos national opinion poll released on Friday, Clinton received 44 percent support among likely voters compared to 37 percent that Trump got.  The Oct. 7-13 survey like other Reuters/Ipsos polls was conducted online in English in all 50 US states, surveying 2,889 people considered likely voters based on their registration status.

The new survey did not show a big difference from an earlier Reuters/Ipsos poll on Tuesday that indicated Clinton led Trump by 8 percentage points.

Trump has recently come under fierce criticism over allegations that he had sexually abused several women in the past.

On Friday, two women accused him of groping them just two days after several other women claimed they had been sexually assaulted by Trump.

Trump, however, has rejected the accusations, calling them “preposterous.” He said the media was helping Clinton to be elected the president of the United States.

The allegations came after a 2005 tape released last Friday showed Trump making vulgar comments about women and having a conversation about trying to have sex with a married woman.

This has caused many senior Republicans such as US House Speaker Paul Ryan and Arizona Senator John McCain to withdraw their endorsements from the real estate mogul.

In his own party, almost 26 percent of over 300 Republican governors and members of Congress said they would not support him, according to a USA TODAY survey published on Wednesday.

In addition, some of his campaign donors have asked him to give back their money over his obscene remarks against women.
