The latest developments concerning emails related to US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is just another part of the American “electoral circus” and is likely to be used to her advantage at the end, says an American political analyst.
John Steppling, an author and commentator based in Norway, made the remarks while discussing the FBI’s reopening of an investigation to Clinton’s emails.
FBI Director James Comey told Congress on Friday that the FBI was reopening the investigation after finding new emails related to the case.
Earlier this year, the Democratic nominee was cleared of all charges related to her possible mishandling of classified information, after undergoing a long-running federal investigation over her use of a private email server to exchanging thousands of emails during her tenure as secretary of state between 2009 and 2013.
According to Steppling, Comey, as a Republican, had taken the center stage of this year’s election cycle and was probably no longer seen as a friend of the Clintons after his recent announcement.
“It is a bit mysterious as to why this is happening right now, but I think when you step back and look at the larger picture here, it is hard to imagine that all of these people Jake Sullivan, [John] Podesta and the rest of Clinton’s close advisers were not aware of the potential for this,” Steppling told Press TV on Sunday.
“I could be wrong, but none of these leaks have really… they have all been kind of distractions because we are talking about information that has no impact beyond American electoral politics,” he noted.
He said the more important evaluations never get traction in the media, whereas basic details concerning the race for the White House are picked up by major media outlets.
“Americans tend to be focused on themselves, so the electoral circus that this election has become I guess is not complete without yet another Clinton email scandal,” he added.
Steppling said the FBI’s announcement does not seem to bear much significance and would probably be later on turned to Clinton’s favor by her “political machine,” Steppling concluded.
