'Obama not prosecuting police killings of blacks'

Margaret Kimberley, a senior editor and columnist with the Black Agenda Report from New York, has told Press TV that out of three people killed by US police every single day, one is black.
The family of a mentally ill African American killed by Sacramento police officers in July have held a press conference, announcing they would pursue legal action against the officers.

A video released by the Sacramento Police Department shows the two officers talking about running Joseph Mann down when they saw him waving a knife. The mentally unstable man dodged the cruiser twice and was shot 14 times less than a minute later.


Kimberley says, “It's part of a very large pattern of police being suddenly unable to deescalate situations or to deal with, in this case, a mentally unstable person who was not threatening himself or anyone else. When there is a black person in the sights of the police, there is a large likelihood that the person will be injured or killed.”

She believes the most and worst thing that may happen to the officers is that they will lose their jobs. “But in all likelihood, even that will not happen.”

Ironically speaking, she mentioned that local prosecutors have managed to indict and convict just about everybody, except when it comes to police.

Kimberley holds President Obama responsible for police brutality against people, saying: “Barack Obama has clearly made it a policy not to prosecute these cases and that is why people keep dying at the hands of police.”

She considers such crimes as obviously presenting “institutionalized racism.”

“People say cops are trained well enough, but I think they're trained to be racist; they're trained in white supremacy. That is the problem with police brutality. It is part of the legacy of American history of slavery of Jim Crow which says that black people are the physical property of white people and can be treated any way that white people want, including be murdered.”

The journalist said Obama promised wealthy donors, who choose US presidents, that he would not act on behalf of black people, and this was the reason behind his being elected despite belonging to the African-American community. “His election is frankly a farce."
