China has urged Pakistan to rapidly bring perpetrators to justice after a Chinese national was shot dead and another wounded in an attack in the southern port city of Karachi.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang at a regular briefing in Beijing on Tuesday urged Pakistani authorities to bring the criminals to justice.
"The consulate general of China has sent officials to the hospital and urged the police to solve the case as soon as possible and bring the criminals to justice."
The two Chinese were in their car in an upmarket area of Pakistan's largest city on Monday when the attackers in another car opened fire on their vehicle.
Pakistani police have described it as an apparent "targeted attack".
The head of the government hospital said one of the Chinese suffered two bullet wounds to his head and later succumbed to his injuries.
The two Chinese were working for a shipping company.
Karachi still has a reputation for gang shootings and other violence despite a paramilitary crackdown that began in 2013.
China is ramping up investment as part of a project known as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The project seeks upgrading infrastructure, power and transport links between its far-western Xinjiang region and Pakistan's Gwadar port.
Thousands of engineers and technicians have come to Pakistan, but the newly arrived people face dangers.
The abduction and killing last June of two Chinese nationals by the Daesh Takfiri terrorists in the southwestern province of Balochistan highlighted the security risks many foreign companies face.
Last October, Pakistan confirmed the death of two Chinese nationals who were kidnapped in the southwestern city of Quetta.
