Senegalese footballer Mame Baba Thiam has signed with professional Iranian soccer club Esteghlal, which currently competes in the Persian Gulf Pro League, after being assessed by the club's medical team.
Thiam, who arrived in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on Monday, had a meeting with Esteghlal officials on Tuesday evening and finalized his contact with the Blues.
No information about the value and length of the deal was immediately available.
Thiam started his senior playing career at Football Club Internazionale Milano SpA, commonly referred to Inter and colloquially known as Inter Milan outside Italy, in 2011.
The 25-year-striker has also played in other Italian football clubs, including Unione Sportiva Avellino 1912, FC Südtirol, Società Sportiva Virtus Lanciano 1924, Juventus and Empoli.
Esteghlal Football Club is gearing up for the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League.
It has been drawn along with Al Rayyan of Qatar, Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal and Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates in Group D of the competition.
Esteghlal will meet Al Rayyan in its opening match on February 13 in the Qatari capital city of Doha.
Esteghlal stands in the sixth spot in the Persian Gulf Pro League table, with 32 points.
Persepolis Football Club is the top-ranked soccer team in the rankings, with 51 points.
Zob Ahan Isfahan Football Club has bagged 38 points to claim the second position, while third-place Foolad Khuzestan Football Club has earned 37 points.
Saipa Football Club has landed in the fourth spot with 35 points. Football Club Pars Jonoubi Jam has claimed the fifth place with 34 points.
