A fire that had broken out in a landmark building in the Lebanese capital of Beirut has been extinguished, a Lebanese civil defense official says.
The fire erupted in a futuristic seafront building that was under construction in a commercial district in central Beirut on Tuesday.
Lebanese TV station al-Jadeed broadcast images of smoke billowing from the building, which was nearing completion after years of construction.
A witness told Reuters that a part of one side of the premises was smoldering as firefighters attempted to hose it down.
Last week, a massive fire broke out at Beirut’s port and engulfed a warehouse storing engine oil, vehicle tires, and food aid.
That fire came a month after a devastating blast rocked the port, killing at least 190 people and injuring thousands of others.
