Boko Haram Can No Longer Confront Nigerian Soldiers – Major General Muazu

The Boko Haram insurgents can no longer confront Nigerian soldiers in a battle in any part of the country, a senior army official has said. General Officer commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Sanusi Muazu has said that Nigerian army would soon bring the activities of Boko Haram to an end in the country.

Speaking over the weekend during the closing ceremony of 2 Division Nigerian Army Inter Brigade Competition held in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Muazu gave this assurance. The army commander who said the major challenge facing the nation today is insurgency in the North East of the country, assured that the challenge is coming to an end soon. He said that Boko Haram is now changing tactics by hitting soft targets which according to him, indicates that their days are numbered. “For the war against insurgency, we must put focus on how to end it very soon. The Boko Haram menace, to me, all what they are doing now is hitting soft targets which indicates that their days are numbered,” he explained.

“That is why they go for soft target. Today I can comfortably tell you that, because I just came back from North East, they cannot and I repeat that they cannot take any offensive attack against Nigerian Forces, that one is for sure. They will keep on going for soft targets, but I want to assure Nigerians that soft targets too will soon end. Indeed there are other challenges ranging from kidnapping, oil bunkering and what have you, but am sure that all these challenges are coming to an end.”

Muazu further said appealed to the people to give the army necessary support in terms of intelligence and information about how the insurgents prepare their bombs.
“I want to remind all Nigerians that this preparation and the rest is not carried out in the open, is carry out in houses and hidden places. So every Nigerian must key into how we can win the battle against insurgency in the North East. I think with that support, we are going to make it.”

Morever, in his remarks, the Ondo State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko promised that the state will continue to support the activities of the Nigerian army.

The governor Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Aderotimi Adelola, Governor Mimiko noted that the competition will improve the capability of the army to be combat ready to surmount the security challenges presently confronting the country.
